Constituted on 19 October 1942 and activated in Palestine on 31 October where they began combat flying B-24 Liberator aircraft. First, the 376th was attached to the Ninth Air Force November 1942-September 1943, and then the Twelfth Air Force from Tunisia, September-November 1943. the group moved to Italy in November 1943 as part of the Fifteenth Air Force until VE-Day in April 1945.
